National Supreme Champion Donkey (Congratulations to Jack and Maisie
Hurst)

In 2001, Jack and Maisie Hurst of Aukland,
New Zealand, purchased three weanlings bred and raised at Country Music
Miniature Donkeys.
The Hurst's primary requirements were to select foals with exceptionally
strong conformation, and the "trademark George Jones head."
After viewing videos of our foals they selected two little jacks, Spade
Cooley, sired by George Jones, Marty Brown, sired by Garth Brooks and a
lovely little jennet, Billie Joe Spears, sired by Garth Brooks.
The foals were weaned in the United States, then flown to New Zealand.
The Hursts entered their "Texas Trio" (as they call them) in the 2002 New
Zealand's National Champion Miniature Donkey Show. Billie Joe Spears was
the National Champion Jennet at Halter in the foal to yearling class,
Spade Cooley placed second, and Marty Brown was third. Billie Joe Spears
was named Supreme Grand Champion of the show.
In the 2003 National Champion Show, Billie Joe Spears was the National
Champion Youngstock and Spade Cooley was the Reserve National Champion
Jack.
Country Music's Spade Cooley was named the Supreme National Champion Miniature Donkey in Aukland, New Zealand for 2004. The National Show was held at the Royal Easter Showgrounds in Aukland.
Jack and Maisie Hurst entertain friends and family at their lovely home,
Chateau Poit Noir, often with Country Western bands. They enjoy bringing
their "Texas Trio" into their home to delight their guests.
They also participate with their donkeys in parades and other community
functions. The Hursts have done a wonderful job promoting the unique
delightfulness of Miniature Donkeys throughout New Zealand
